Five People Hospitalized After Crash on Rugged Drive in Dallas

Dallas, TX (April 16, 2026) – One person died in a crash on Rugged Drive involving the Dallas Fire and Rescue vehicle and a white minivan Thursday afternoon. 

The collision happened at about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Rugged Drive and Savoy Street, just outside Kiest Park. Authorities said the DFR unit slammed into the minivan while en route to an emergency.

By 6:30 p.m., video from WFAA’s helicopter showed the intersection still taped off as Dallas police secured the area. Both the DFR vehicle and the civilian minivan remained at the crash site.

Dallas Fire and Rescue reported that one person from the minivan was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from their injuries.

Officials also said five people were transported from the scene, including a pediatric patient, two DFR medics, and an intern.

Authorities said the pediatric patient suffered minor injuries.

They have not yet released additional details about the conditions of the Dallas Fire and Rescue employees involved.

The crash remains under investigation, and officials have described the case as a developing story.
