Daniel Calletano, Naida Primo, Pedro Roque, Daniel Ventura, Carlos Gonzalez Involved in Highway 33 Crash Near Lokern Road

KERN COUNTY, CA (February 14, 2019) – Four people were injured Monday afternoon when two cars collided on Highway 33 near Lokern Road.

The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. and California Highway Patrol believe speed and unsafe passing played a role in the crash.

Daniel Sanchez Calletano, 20 of Maricopa was operating a 2005 Ford Escape heading southbound on the highway at speeds of 65 mph. Calletano tried veering into the northbound lanes to pass up slower traffic ahead but veered back to the left to avoid a head-on collision with the northbound cars. During this attempt, his Ford Escape struck a 2001 Honda Accord driven by 27-year-old Carlos Salazar Gonzalez, of Santa Maria.

The impact sent Gonzalez’s Honda spinning out into a ditch nearby. Gonzalez was unharmed but Calletano and his 23-year-old passenger from Maricopa – Naida Lopez Primo – suffered major injuries and were airlifted to Kern Medical for treatment.

Two other passengers in the Ford identified as 53-year-old Pedro Roque and 25-year-old Daniel Ventura – both from Taft – were taken to Kern Medical.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing sources to the collision; however, a follow-up investigation is underway.
