Daniel Morales Killed in Tragic DUI Crash on Interstate 80 [Oakland, CA]

Oakland, CA (July 2, 2025) – 40-year-old Daniel Morales, a delivery driver and father from Oakland, was killed in a DUI-related collision on Interstate 80 Friday

Authorities reported that around 3:30 a.m., 34-year-old Emmanuel Gonzalez Mendoza of El Cerrito drove under the influence on Interstate 80 near Buchanan Street in Albany and triggered a three-vehicle crash.

Investigators revealed Mendoza was heavily intoxicated when his Toyota Camry struck Morales’ Hyundai, causing it to fall from the overpass and resulting in Morales’ death. A big-rig was also involved in the accident.

The Alameda County District Attorney charged Mendoza with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and with gross negligence. He appeared in court on Tuesday but did not enter a plea. A public defender is representing him.

Morales, who supported his family by working for Amazon and DoorDash, was en route to his delivery job at the time of the crash. His loved ones shared that he had recently spent joyful moments with family visiting from Guatemala, including attending a Metallica concert and sightseeing around Lake Tahoe and San Francisco.
