Daniel Zhengyu Qin Dies After Fishing Boat Crashes Near Golden Gate Bridge [San Francisco, CA]

San Francisco, CA (September 19, 2026) — 35-year-old Daniel Zhengyu Qin died after a fishing boat carrying three people crashed into rocks near the Golden Gate Bridge and began to capsize.

The incident occurred around 6:10 a.m. Thursday, September 17, near the Golden Gate Bridge on the Marin County side.

Authorities reported that the recreational fishing vessel struck rocks beneath the bridge and became pinned between two rocks.

The U.S. Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit, San Francisco Fire Department, Southern Marin Fire District, and Sausalito Fire responded. Crews rescued all three boaters from the water and took them to the Marin County shoreline for treatment.

All three suffered life-threatening injuries. Qin of San Jose later died at a Marin County hospital while undergoing surgery. A second boater remained in critical condition, while the third was listed in stable condition.

Authorities continued investigating what caused the vessel to strike the rocks.
