The 61-year-old man, best known as “Tricycle Man” Danny Martin, died just after 6:00 a.m. Monday.

Paramedics responded to Whittier Boulevard near Jordan Road to find Martin seriously injured. Despite aggressive life-saving efforts, Martin—a venerated community figure known for riding a tricycle decked with an American flag and a sign praising Jesus—died shortly after.

The 2004 BMW driver stopped and stayed at the scene. As of now, police did not file charges.

Investigators learned that Martin did not cross in a marked crosswalk when the incident occurred. However, it is unclear how the accident unfolded.
