Darnell Johnson Dies in Tragic Collision on Noland Road

Injuries Reported in Fatal Head-On Crash Near 35th Street

Independence, MO (March 6, 2026) — 42-year-old Darnell Johnson lost his life Wednesday evening after a head-on crash along Noland Road in Independence.

According to authorities, the collision happened around 5:44 p.m. just north of 35th Street near Truman High School.

Investigators determined Johnson was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country northbound when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the southbound lanes. The van then collided head-on with a 2025 Ford Maverick traveling in the opposite direction.

Johnson died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Two people inside the Ford pickup suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported them to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The impact left both vehicles blocking the southbound lanes of Noland Road, prompting authorities to shut down the roadway for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The road later reopened around 9:30 p.m.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
