David Heard of Murrieta Dead in DUI Crash on Rancho California Road [Temecula, CA]

Temecula, CA (July 30, 2026) – David Heard, 39, of Murrieta, was killed following a DUI crash on Rancho California Road Friday evening.

It was before 7 p.m. when Jonathan Ruiz, 38, of Bellflower, erratically drove his vehicle through the intersection with Riesling Court, resulting to a three-vehicle crash.

Heard, who was walking within the intersection during the vehicle crash was struck.

Responding officers declared Heard deceased at the scene.

Moreover, two occupants from one of the vehicles were rushed to a hospital in stable condition.

Police said all the vehicles involved sustained major damage.

Investigators determined Ruiz was under the influence and arrested him without incident.

Along with murder, officers charged Ruiz with DUI resulting in injury or death and multiple sentence-enhancing great bodily injury allegations.

Ruiz is held at the Byrd Detention Center with $1 million bail.
