David Moreno Dead in Hit-and-Run Crash on N McColl Road [Edinburg, TX]

Edinburg, TX (July 8, 2026) – David Moreno, 43, was fatally injured following a hit-and-run crash on N McColl Road Friday.

The authorities said the deadly crash happened on June 26 at the 2000 block of N McColl Road.

Investigators said Moreno was riding his bicycle in the center turning lane when his bike was rear-ended by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Later, the parents of four minors who were occupying the suspect vehicle reported the fatal traffic collision to the Edinburg Police Department.

Police said Jezaie Luis Gonzalez, 17, of Edinburg, reported to the authorities that he saw a white Dodge Charger strike the victim and sped southbound on McColl Road.

Troopers identified the suspect vehicle as a silver 2014 Dodge Caravan.

However, investigators determined that Gonzalez’s statement was made up to mislead them and protect the driver at fault.

Gonzalez was charged with false report to a police officer, and a $5,000 bond was issued to him after his arrest.

The suspect driver, who was a minor, surrendered to police hours following the fatal collision.

According to the authorities, the driver would be charged with a collision involving personal injury or death.
