David Zapata Killed in Horrific Crash on FM 506 [Harlingen, TX]

Harlingen, TX (July 9, 2025) – 46-year-old David Zapata tragically lost his life after a hit-and-run crash on IH-2.

According to authorities, the deadly collision happened around 5 p.m. east of FM 506 in Harlingen.

Authorities have arrested a 28-year-old Cristobal Stephan Garzez in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred

Reports say that Zapata was securing a vehicle onto his black 2010 Hino tow truck while parked on the shoulder of the expressway when a white Dodge Ram struck him.

Investigators say the Garzez failed to slow down or move over for the emergency vehicle. After hitting Zapata, Garzez fled the scene but was quickly found nearby.

Officers arrested him and booked him into Cameron County Jail. Charges against him include intoxication manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, failure to slow down causing death, and possession of a controlled substance.

Texas DPS Troopers are continuing their investigation into the fatal crash.
