Deadly Bicycle Crash on Prior Lane Kills 1 [Atherton, CA]

Atherton, CA (May 10, 2025) – A tragic bicycle crash on Prior Lane left a person dead at the scene Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the fatal collision happened around 7:40 a.m. in Atherton near Middlefield Road and Prior Lane.

Reports say that the bicyclist was killed in a collision with a garbage truck.

Authorities say that the the bicyclist was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly after.

The investigation revealed that the garbage truck, traveling southbound, was turning onto Prior Lane when it struck the bicyclist, who was also traveling southbound in the designated bike lane. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. No signs of alcohol or drugs were involved.

This is the first traffic fatality in Atherton for the year. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of their next of kin.
