Dean Carl Voigt Injured in Fatal Crash on Highway 46 [San Luis Obispo County, CA]

San Luis Obispo County, CA (June 9, 2025) — 62-year-old Dean Carl Voigt was hurt, and 29-year-old Cesar Pena Estrada, a Cambria resident, died in a head-on collision Sunday morning on Highway 46 West in an unincorporated area of San Luis Obispo County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Oscar Pena Estrada, 21, was driving a Ford Mustang when the vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and collided head-on with a Ram 2500 towing a camping trailer. Voigt of Ellisville, Missouri, drove the Ram.

Cesar Pena Estrada, a passenger in the Mustang, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Authorities reported that Voigt and a passenger in the Ram sustained minor injuries. Oscar Pena Estrada suffered major injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Emergency crews transported him to Adventist Health Sierra Vista for medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
