Woman Killed, Man Seriously Hurt After Car Hits Tree in Hart

Hart, TX (September 30, 2025) — On Sunday afternoon, Debera McMerrell lost her life and Bobby Allensworth suffered serious injuries after a car slammed into a tree and caught fire in Hart.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the crash happened around 4:23 p.m. when 66-year-old Bobby Allensworth of Pineland drove north on Date Street at an unsafe speed. His vehicle veered off the road, struck a tree, and burst into flames.

The passenger, 69-year-old Debera McMerrell of Emory Rains, was rushed to Plains Medical Center in Dimmitt, where she later died. Allensworth was also taken to the same facility before being airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
