Deby Ortiz Lara Hospitalized in FM 1776 Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash [Ward County, TX]

13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Ward County Vehicle Collision

Ward County, TX (August 14, 2026) – Deby Ortiz Lara, 35, of Coyanosa, was injured, while his 13-year-old boy passenger, also from Coyanosa, was killed in an FM 1776 multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening.

It was before 8 p.m. when the horrible collision between four vehicles happened at the intersection with FM 1219.

Investigators determined a Ford F-350, driven by 42-year-old Leander resident, was southbound on FM 1219, approaching the intersection.

At the same time, a Volkswagen Passat, driven by Lara, was eastbound on FM 1776.

Police said an International Harvester towing another International Harvester was westbound on FM 1776 and was turning left at the intersection.

According to the authorities, the Ford driver failed to yield the right of way, drove through the intersection, and crashed onto the Passat.

The impact of the collision made the Passat to crash onto the International Harvester.

Troopers responded to the scene and declared a 13-year-old boy riding in the Passat, deceased at the scene.

Furthermore, Lara sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Ward County Hospital. One of his passengers, Maria Francisca Yanez Alberto, 33, also of Coyanosa, also sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Another child passenger Lara’s vehicle was seriously injured and was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. A second child also sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ward County Hospital.

The rescuers also transported the Ford’s driver to Ward County Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers are conducting a further investigation.

The team at Sweet Lawyers extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the 13-year-old boy who died in this collision. Losing a loved one in such a tragic accident is never easy, and our thoughts are with those mourning this loss.

When a Fatal Accident Changes Everything

Losing someone you love in a crash is one of the hardest things anyone can go through. Beyond the deep emotional pain, families are often left facing sudden financial challenges — from medical bills and funeral costs to the loss of income that once helped keep everything together.

During times like these, it’s important to know that you don’t have to face it all alone. A wrongful death claim can help bring a measure of justice and financial relief to families dealing with unimaginable loss.

This kind of claim not only helps cover expenses but also holds the responsible party accountable — whether the crash was caused by distracted driving, speeding, or another act of negligence. It’s a way to stand up for your loved one and make sure their story is heard.

Financial compensation can help ease some of the burden by covering:

  • Funeral and burial costs
  • Medical expenses from the victim’s final care
  • Lost wages and future earnings
  • Emotional loss and companionship

While no amount of money can ever replace someone you love, pursuing justice can bring a sense of closure and help prevent similar tragedies from happening to others.

You Deserve Support, Justice, and Peace of Mind
