Coachella Valley, CA (March 25, 2025) – 77-year-old Dennis McDougal tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 10.

According to authorities, the horrific crash happened around 4 p.m. on March 21 on westbound I-10, roughly two-and-a-half miles east of the Red Cloud Mine Road exit.

Authorities say that the collision involved four vehicles, and emergency responders airlifted two individuals—one with severe injuries and another with moderate injuries.

Renowned journalist and author, known for chronicling Hollywood’s glamour and corruption, McDougal died from injuries sustained in the multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10.

McDougal succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He was a resident of Cordova, Tennessee.

McDougal spent over 30 years in journalism, writing for the Los Angeles Times and contributing to The New York Times. He authored 14 books, including biographies of Bob Dylan, Jack Nicholson, and Lew Wasserman. His book In the Best of Families was an Edgar Allan Poe Award nominee, and his final work, Citizen Wynn, is set for release in May.
