Two Hospitalized After Crash on 3501 Travis Street in Houston
Houston, TX (February 5, 2026) – A Houston Police Department detective was injured Tuesday afternoon following a crash on 3501 Travis Street involving a stolen vehicle that overturned and caught fire in Midtown Houston, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 3 p.m. near 3501 Travis Street. According to HPD, the incident stemmed from a stolen vehicle reported earlier in the day, around 7 a.m.
Police said officers spotted the stolen vehicle near Main Street and Holman Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver allegedly fled, running two stop lights before officers discontinued the ground pursuit and called in air support.
A female detective who was not involved in the pursuit was driving along Travis Street toward police headquarters when her vehicle collided with the stolen car. The impact caused the stolen vehicle to overturn and catch fire.
Video obtained by KPRC 2 News shows officers working to remove an occupant from the overturned vehicle before taking the suspect into custody. Police said the suspect kicked out the rear window to escape but was quickly detained.
The detective was transported to a hospital with injuries and minor burns. Police said she is expected to recover. The suspect, who complained of back pain, was also taken to the hospital.
Authorities said the suspect faces charges including vehicle theft, evading arrest, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation remains ongoing.
