1 Dead in Pike County Auto Accident on Highway 54 and Pike County Road 458
PIKE COUNTY, MO (May 6, 2026) – Monday night, a Vandalia teenager died in a devastating 2-vehicle crash on Highway 54 and Pike County Road 458.
The incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. on Highway 54, east of Pike County Road 458.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash involved a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Cadillac XTS traveling in opposite directions.
Troopers said the Chrysler was heading westbound when the driver overcorrected to the left, lost control, crossed the center line, and struck the Cadillac on the passenger side.
A 17-year-old passenger in the Chrysler, from Vandalia, was taken to a hospital where she later died. The Chrysler driver suffered serious injuries, while the Cadillac driver had minor injuries.
Authorities said neither the Chrysler driver nor the teen passenger was wearing a seatbelt, while the Cadillac driver was properly restrained.
