1 Dead in Ione Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 104 and Five Mile Drive

IONE, CA (July 23, 2026) – Wednesday morning, a person died in a devastating 3-vehicle crash on Highway 104 and Five Mile Drive.

The incident involving three vehicles happened at about 7:18 a.m. on Highway 104, north of Five Mile Drive.

Investigators said a Tesla traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane, sideswiped a Honda, then collided head-on with a Cadillac.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2-year-old who was riding in the Tesla was transported to a hospital for evaluation. The extent of the child’s injuries has not been released.

The drivers of the Honda and Cadillac sustained moderate injuries and were also taken to hospitals.

CHP said the reason the Tesla crossed into oncoming traffic remains under investigation.

The roadway was expected to remain closed for at least two hours, and motorists were advised to expect delays and use alternate routes.
