1 Dead in San Francisco Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 80 near 7th Street

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 31, 2026) – Saturday morning, an 18-year-old passenger died in a devastating 3-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near 7th Street.

The incident involving a tractor-trailer, a Recology truck semi, and a grey Chevrolet Camaro happened at about 1:00 a.m. on Interstate 80 near 7th Street.

Police said a Chevrolet Camaro was traveling eastbound just west of 7th Street when it made an illegal lane change to the right and collided with a tractor-trailer approaching the off-ramp.

Both vehicles struck sand barrels at the top of the 7th Street off-ramp. The tractor-trailer continued onto the ramp and came to a stop, blocking all lanes.

After impact, the Camaro continued and launched over the off-ramp bridge railing, falling about 25 feet into the San Francisco Police Department impound lot below and striking several vehicles. The car landed upside down on another vehicle.

Police said four people were inside the Camaro. The 18-year-old driver suffered moderate injuries and exited the vehicle on his own, and a 17-year-old front passenger also sustained moderate injuries.

Two 18-year-old rear passengers suffered major injuries. One was hospitalized, while the other was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. at the scene. Authorities said the deceased passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, while the others were.

The California Highway Patrol San Francisco office said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
