1 Dead in Albuquerque Multi-Vehicle Accident on Layton Avenue and Eubank

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (May 18, 2026) – Thursday, a person died in a devastating 3-vehicle crash on Layton Avenue and Eubank.

The incident involving three vehicles happened on Layton Avenue and Eubank.

The Albuquerque Police Department said the driver of a Kia was traveling eastbound on Layton Avenue and stopped at a red light before attempting to turn onto Eubank Boulevard. Police said the driver then accelerated through the red light.

A gray Jeep traveling southbound on Eubank struck the Kia in the intersection. The Jeep continued southbound and veered left, then collided with a Volkswagen van waiting in the northbound turn lane.

Authorities said the Kia driver was injured and taken to a hospital, where he later died. The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries, while the Volkswagen driver and a juvenile passenger inside the van were not hurt.

APD said neither impairment nor speed appeared to be factors in the crash. Investigators believe the primary cause was the Kia driver running the red light.
