Man Killed in Devastating 4-Vehicle Crash on Highway 87

1 Dead in San Jose Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 87 and 280 Freeway

SAN JOSE, CA (April 21, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, a 63-year-old man died in a devastating 4-vehicle crash on Highway 87 and 280 Freeway.

The incident involving four vehicles happened at about 3:15 p.m. on Highway 87 and 280 Freeway.

Officers said a 2003 Nissan Frontier rear-ended a 2021 Toyota Sienna, triggering a chain-reaction crash that involved two additional vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals with injuries. The Toyota driver, a 63-year-old man from San Jose, later died. The Nissan driver sustained minor injuries, and impairment is not believed to be a factor.
