1 Dead in Newport Beach Multi-Vehicle Accident on San Miguel Drive and MacArthur Boulevard

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (May 21, 2026) – Tuesday afternoon, a man died in a devastating 6-vehicle crash on San Miguel Drive and MacArthur Boulevard.

The incident involving six vehicles happened at about 4:00 p.m. on San Miguel Drive and MacArthur Boulevard.

Police said officers immediately began providing medical aid to the driver of a black Toyota Corolla that sustained significant damage in the crash. The man was transported to a hospital by Newport Beach Fire Department personnel, where he later died.

Another driver was taken to a hospital after reporting pain, while the remaining drivers involved were treated and released at the scene.

Authorities said the area remained impacted for several hours while traffic investigators examined the collision. Preliminary findings indicate the Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on San Miguel Drive when it struck several vehicles stopped at a red light near MacArthur Boulevard.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
