1 Dead in Piñon Hills Auto Accident on Palmdale Road near Blanco Road

PIÑON HILLS, CA (September 24, 2025) – Monday afternoon, a person died in a devastating head-on crash on Palmdale Road near Blanco Road.

The incident involving a big rig and an SUV happened at around 4:45 p.m. on Palmdale Road near Blanco Road.

First responders found that a Chevrolet Equinox SUV had collided head-on with a big rig hauling 78,000 pounds of beverages, according to the CHP. The driver of the SUV died at the scene.

Preliminary findings show the big rig was heading west on Palmdale Road (Highway 18) when the SUV, traveling eastbound at high speed, crossed into the westbound lane east of Blanco Road. For unknown reasons, the SUV did not merge back, and despite the truck driver veering left to avoid impact, the two vehicles collided head-on.

The SUV caught fire after the crash, though firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby vegetation. The driver’s identity has not yet been released.

Eastbound traffic on Palmdale Road was closed at Oasis Road, while westbound traffic was stopped at Sheep Creek Road. A Sig Alert was issued as CHP continued its investigation.
