1 Dead in Oakland Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 880 near Embaradero

OAKLAND, CA (September 2, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 near Embaradero killed 1 person.

The incident involving three vehicles happened at about 5:34 a.m. on northbound Interstate 880 near south of Embaradero.

The CHP reported that the initial collision involved a white Tesla Model Y, a white Tesla Model 3, and a red Toyota Rav4.

Following this, a Freightliner box truck collided with the rear of the Tesla Model Y, resulting in fatal injuries to its driver, according to CHP. 

The driver of the Tesla Model 3 was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, while an evaluation determined that the Freightliner driver was not impaired. 

The investigation is still ongoing, but all lanes have since reopened.
