FLAGSTAFF, AZ (September 8, 2026) – Friday night, Gary Zeman died in a devastating pedestrian crash near Yale Street and Plaza Way.

The incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. near Yale Street and Plaza Way.

A 69-year-old Flagstaff man, Gary Zeman, died after being struck by a car near Yale Street and Plaza Way, police said. The crash did not occur near the Northern Arizona University campus.

The driver, 23-year-old Matthew Goodman, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He was arrested and booked into the Coconino County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving and manslaughter.

Flagstaff police said speed and impairment are believed to be contributing factors. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
