1 Dead and 5 Hurt in Laredo Plane Accident on Loop 20

LAREDO, TX (June 17, 2026) – Tuesday, a person died and 5 were hospitalized following a devastating plane crash on Loop 20.

The incident involved a private aircraft that crash-landed on Loop 20, the Laredo Police Department said.

Six people were aboard the aircraft, and five were transported to hospitals in stable condition following the crash landing.

According to the Laredo Police Department, airport officials reported before 10 p.m. that a private aircraft was experiencing mechanical problems and lost contact with the control tower. A crash landing was reported on Loop 20 a few minutes after 10 p.m.

Authorities said the plane landed on the roadway and struck one vehicle. Police have not released information about the passengers pending notification of their families.

Several first responders suffered smoke inhalation while responding to the incident, police said.

Loop 20 remained closed overnight and was expected to stay shut through much of Wednesday while federal investigators examined the scene. The closure extends from just north of the city annex to south of the city annex. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Transportation Safety Board are taking over the investigation. Police described the crash site as a large and active scene.
