BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 23, 2026)— A 58-year-old Diana Cruz Tellez died after a vehicle struck her in a crash on North Chester Avenue late Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 9:59 p.m. on April 23, 2026, in the 1200 block of North Chester Avenue.

According to CHP, a 22-year-old woman drove a 2008 Infiniti G35 northbound on North Chester Avenue when the collision occurred. 

Investigators said that, for reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian entered the roadway outside of a crosswalk and moved directly into the path of the Infiniti.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian and caused severe injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office later identified the pedestrian as 58-year-old Diana Cruz Tellez.

CHP said the Infiniti driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
