SMITH COUNTY, TX (August 31, 2025) – Saturday afternoon, a disastrous multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Jim Hogg Road injured several people.

The incident happened on the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Jim Hogg Road.

The westbound lanes of I-20 near Jim Hogg Road were shut down Saturday afternoon after a major crash involving multiple vehicles, including two 18-wheelers and six personal vehicles, officials said.

Smith County Sgt. Larry Christian confirmed the crash, while Lindale Fire Chief Jeremy Larue said 19 people were involved. Seventeen were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the 18-wheelers came to rest near a damaged highway railing. TxDOT is inspecting the bridge, and the turnaround east of U.S. Highway 69 has been closed. Traffic lights at I-20 and U.S. 69 are also down, with Lindale police directing traffic.

As of 5 p.m., one westbound lane had reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
