Double Fatality in Horrific Head-On Collision on I-8 [Lakeside, CA]

Lakeside, CA (May 23, 2025) — On Thursday morning, 2 El Cajon men lost their lives following a head-on collision on I-8 WB near Lake Jennings Park Road in Lakeside.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11 a.m. when a Toyota RAV4 traveling eastbound crossed the center median and entered westbound lanes. The SUV then collided head-on with a Honda Accord.

The impact scattered debris across the freeway, and one of the vehicles overturned onto its roof. Authorities said the 24-year-old Toyota driver died at the scene, while the 43-year-old Honda driver later died at a hospital.

Officials closed a portion of westbound I-8 for about four hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigators examined the scene.

CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the collision.
