REDWOOD CITY, CA (April 29, 2026)— One person suffered minor injuries in a crash near Redwood City.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver of a red Ford Mustang after he allegedly reached 120 mph, drove on the highway shoulder, fled from officers, and caused a crash that pushed another vehicle onto active railroad tracks.

According to the CHP Redwood City office, the incident happened last weekend. Officers said the Mustang driver sped along the highway shoulder before attempting to evade law enforcement.

CHP reported that the suspect exited the freeway onto city streets multiple times while trying to get away. Officers eventually called off the pursuit because they determined the public safety risk was too great.

While fleeing, the Mustang driver allegedly exited the freeway at an unsafe speed, lost control, and struck another vehicle. The impact pushed both vehicles onto an active railroad track.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to CHP.

Authorities later arrested the Mustang driver and booked him into jail. CHP said the driver claimed he was “running late for work” as his reason for reckless driving and evading officers.
