Police Investigate Multi-Vehicle Rollover Crash on Interstate 70 in Grand Junction
Grand Junction, CO (February 8, 2026) – A driver suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning after a vehicle struck a horse, triggering a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 that shut down eastbound lanes for several hours.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. near mile marker 22.
Investigators said two primary vehicles were involved: a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by a 41-year-old man from Grand Junction and a Ford F-250 driven by a 17-year-old male from Peyton.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the Toyota rolled over following the impact. Two additional vehicles sustained minor damage during the incident.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but the driver of the Toyota became trapped inside the overturned vehicle and required rescue before being transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The horse involved in the crash died at the scene. Authorities temporarily shut down eastbound lanes of I-70 while first responders assisted victims and cleared debris.
The crash remains under investigation.
