41-Year-Old David Cook Hospitalized After Crash on East 32nd Street in Joplin

Joplin, MO (February 11, 2026) – A 41-year-old man remains in serious but stable condition following a head-on crash on East 32nd Street involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Emergency calls reported the crash just before 1:45 p.m. near East 32nd Street and Jaguar Road. Joplin Fire, Joplin Police, and EMS responded quickly, with MoDOT Emergency Response assisting with traffic control.

Authorities identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as Eddie Cook, 41, of Greenwood, Missouri. 

Officials said he was rescued from his vehicle and transported in critical condition to a local hospital. 

As of February 12, 2026, police confirmed he is in serious but stable condition.

Investigators said the passenger vehicle was traveling westbound when it crossed all lanes of traffic and struck an eastbound tractor-trailer head-on. 

After colliding with the semi, the vehicle continued off the south side of the roadway. The impact embedded the semi’s cattle guard bumper into the front of the car.

The crash sparked a grass fire that spread approximately 150 feet before firefighters extinguished it. East 32nd Street was immediately closed as debris and vehicle fluids covered the roadway. 

The Joplin Police Major Crash Team documented the scene for further investigation.

The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported non-emergency to a hospital. A dog inside the passenger vehicle did not survive.

Traffic remained halted for approximately 135 minutes before reopening around 4 p.m.
