Driver Killed After Car Crashes Into Semi-Truck on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (May 12, 2025) — Early Sunday morning, a Honda driver died and a semi-truck driver was hurt after a 2-car collision on Highway 99 in south Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 2 a.m. to northbound Highway 99 near Hosking Avenue following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

Investigators said the driver of a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling at a high speed in the number three lane when the vehicle caught up to a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck moving at approximately 55 mph. The Honda then crashed into the rear of the trailer.

After impact, the Honda traveled toward the right shoulder and came to a stop. The semi-truck driver pulled over and remained at the scene until authorities arrived.

Emergency responders pronounced the Honda driver dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.

CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash and asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
