Pickup Driver Jimmy Broyles Deceased in I-40 Vehicle Crash

2 Drivers Hospitalized in Potter County Deadly Crash

Potter County, TX (August 14, 2026) – Jimmy Broyles, 76, of Logan, New Mexico, sustained fatal injuries following an I-40 vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

It was past 4 p.m. when the deadly crash happened on the westbound freeway.

Investigators said, a 2022 Mack tractor-trailer, driven by Jimmy Diaz, 48, of Amarillo, was westbound on the freeway when it crossed the median, and drove through a cable barrier.

The tractor-trailer then entered the eastbound lanes and crashed onto a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Broyles, which then crashed onto a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu.

Afterward, the tractor-trailer continued across the frontage road and rested in an open field.

Broyles’ vehicle rolled and rested in the center median.

Troopers said the Malibu, driven by Evelyn Karina Rangel-Gonzalez, 24, of Harlingen, skidded into the median.

The authorities responded to the crash scene and declared Jimmy Broyles deceased.

Moreover, the rescuers transported Diaz to Northwest Texas Hospital with minor injuries, and Rangel-Gonzalez to BSA Hospital, also with minor injuries.

Investigators said the three drivers were wearing seat belts during the collision.
