Police investigate Fatal Fiery Crash on Highway 99 in Traver
Traver, CA (October 11, 2025) – A driver was killed and a passenger suffered major injuries in a fiery crash on Highway 99 involving a big rig on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred as the vehicle was traveling through Traver, when the driver attempted to pull over to the shoulder. At that moment, a big rig clipped the car, causing the driver to lose control.
The vehicle veered onto the Merritt Avenue off-ramp and crashed into the concrete barrier beneath the overpass, coming to a stop before bursting into flames.
Witnesses on the scene acted quickly, managing to rescue both the driver and passenger from the burning vehicle.
Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.
The big rig driver was not injured in the crash. CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
