Police Investigate Wrecker Truck Crash on Southwest Freeway in Houston

HOUSTON, TX (December 13, 2025) — A tragic crash on Southwest Freeway early Saturday morning claimed the life of a driver whose disabled vehicle was struck by a wrecker truck near Fountain View.

According to Houston police, the crash occurred around 2 a.m. when a small black Mazda became disabled in a southbound lane of the freeway.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed that the driver of the Mazda died from their injuries.

The wrecker driver was not hurt and is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Houston Police Sergeant Michael Barrow stated that the incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

Southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours as authorities cleared the scene and began piecing together what led to the crash.
