Driver and Passenger Hospitalized in I-5 Vehicle Crash [Seattle, WA]

Seattle, WA (March 9, 2026) –  A 66-year-old driver and an 11-year-old passenger were injured in an I-5 vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

It was past 3 a.m. when three vehicles crashed near the West Seattle Freeway.

Police said two vehicles were traveling in the far-left lane and another vehicle was on the third lane.

Suddenly, one of the vehicles lost control and crashed onto a car in the same lane. The vehicle then spun and struck the other car.

Immediately, rescuers rushed to the scene and transported the 66-year-old driver, in stable condition, and the 11-year-old passenger, in serious condition, to a hospital. The 11-year-old is in the ICU.

Moreover, a 20-year-old Des Moines woman, believed to be the driver at fault, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center. Officers said she was not wearing a seatbelt during the collision.

Investigators stated that alcohol or drugs, and excessive speed, played roles in the crash. The driver is expected to face a vehicular assault charge.
