Police Investigate Crash on Highway 271 in Smith County
SMITH COUNTY, TX (December 13, 2025) — A driver died in a crash on Highway 271 late Friday night after their vehicle became wedged beneath an 18-wheeler
The fatal crash occurred just before midnight, around 11:55 p.m., prompting an immediate emergency response and the closure of all westbound lanes of Highway 271.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the car died at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation to determine what caused the vehicle to become lodged beneath the semi-truck.
Smith County officials worked through the night, and the road was reopened by 4 a.m.
At this time, the identity of the deceased driver has not been made public, pending notification of next of kin.
