Columbia Man Charged After Fatal Head-On Crash in Camden County

Camden County, MO (June 16, 2025) — 27-year-old Dylan Gibson of Columbia is facing felony charges following a fatal head-on collision on Route 5 that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:22 p.m. on Missouri Route 5 near Niangua Bridge. Investigators said a 2004 Toyota Highlander and a 2018 BMW X3 collided head-on.

The driver of the Toyota, a 63-year-old man from Roach, Missouri, suffered critical injuries and later died at a hospital.

Authorities reported that the BMW driver, identified as Gibson, escaped injury. However, his 22-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital for treatment.

Court records indicate that a responding deputy observed Gibson discarding small alcohol bottles from the bridge after the crash. Authorities arrested him at the scene, and documents later showed his blood alcohol concentration measured .233%.

Prosecutors charged Gibson with DWI resulting in the death of another person and DWI resulting in serious physical injury. He remains held in the Camden County Jail without bond.
