17-Year-Old Edith Ochoa Dies, Man Injured After Crash on Loop 101 in Phoenix

 Phoenix, AZ (September 3, 2024) – Early Monday morning, 17-year-old Edith Ochoa died in a crash on Loop 101. 

A teen girl lost her life and a man sustained serious injuries when an off-road vehicle crashed in a desert area near Loop 101 in north Phoenix early Monday morning. 

According to Phoenix police, the crash occurred around 4 a.m. when an ATV lost control in the desert near 47th Avenue and Beardsley Road, just north of Loop 101. 

Upon arrival, authorities found the teen girl unresponsive and the man injured.

The girl, identified as 17-year-old Edith Ochoa, had been driving the ATV with a 20-year-old man in the passenger seat. 

Ochoa reportedly lost control while heading west on Beardsley Road and veered onto the dirt shoulder, causing both to be ejected from the vehicle.

Ochoa was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fatal crash, including whether impairment played a role. 

The investigation is ongoing.
