Elias Cruz Killed in Tragic Motorcycle Crash on FM 88

Motorcyclist Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash on FM 88 Near Elsa

Elsa, TX (August 21, 2026) — 55-year-old Elias Cruz of Edinburg died after a hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning on FM 88 in Hidalgo County, north of Elsa, Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Cruz was riding a Harley-Davidson northbound on FM 88 around 4:57 a.m. when a gray Dodge Durango struck his motorcycle from behind. Investigators believe the SUV failed to control its speed before the collision.

Cruz suffered critical injuries and later died at a local hospital. The Dodge driver reportedly left the scene without stopping to assist.

Troopers later found the Dodge on Mile 19, east of FM 88. DPS continues to investigate and is seeking information that could help identify the driver.
