Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Two Vehicles on 91 Freeway in Riverside

Riverside, CA (June 3, 2025) — 28-year-old Elias Hernandez Vasquez of Riverside died early Sunday after entering traffic on the eastbound 91 Freeway and being hit by two vehicles.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway west of Tyler Street in Riverside. Investigators said Vasquez walked into the traffic lanes, possibly attempting to cross the freeway, when a Nissan 370Z struck him.

The impact caused the Nissan driver to lose control and leave the roadway, coming to rest on the right shoulder embankment. While Vasquez remained on the roadway, a Honda Civic subsequently struck him.

The Honda driver pulled off the freeway, contacted emergency services, and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators. Riverside Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Vasquez dead at the scene.

Emergency crews also rescued the Nissan driver from the vehicle. The driver suffered minor injuries, received treatment at a local hospital, and was released later that day.

Authorities said neither driver showed signs of impairment. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether intoxicating substances may have played a role in Vasquez’s actions before the crash.
