Wrong-Way Crash on I-40 in Oldham County Kills Asaph Mecklenburg

Oldham County, TX (January 3, 2025) On Wednesday afternoon, Eric Orange was seriously hurt in a tragic crash on I-40 that killed Asaph Mecklenburg.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal wrong-way crash happened around 12:21 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40.

Reports say that the head-on collision claimed the life of 18-year-old Mecklenburg and left Orange seriously injured.

Authorities say that Mecklenburg, of Pagosa Springs, CO, drove a 2013 Hyundai Veloster eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40. A 2023 Ford Bronco, traveling west, collided head-on with the Veloster due to Mecklenburg driving on the wrong side of the highway.

Mecklenburg was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. Orange sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
