Erika Kovalenko Injured in Horrific Crash on Potato Hill Road [Moses Lake, WA]

Moses Lake, WA (June 24, 2025) – 37-year-old Erika Kovalenko of Moses Lake was injured in a shocking crash on Potato Hill Road Thursday afternoon.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the frightening crash happened on Potato Hill Road SE near Baseline Road E, just south of Moses Lake.

Reports say that a 16-year-old driver caused the crash, when a boat trailer detached from his vehicle and struck an oncoming SUV.

Authorities say that the teen was towing a 16-foot boat with a 2020 Dodge Ram heading southbound.

While crossing railroad tracks near Baseline Road E, the trailer disconnected—likely due to a compressed suspension and unsecured equipment—and veered into the northbound lane.

The loose trailer sideswiped a 2013 Ford Expedition driven by Kovalenko. During the impact, the boat separated from the trailer.

Kovalenko sustained multiple cuts from shattered glass but declined hospital transport. EMS treated her at the scene.

The teen admitted he hadn’t planned to drive far and wasn’t sure if he attached the trailer’s safety chains. Investigators found no signs of tension or damage on the chains and couldn’t confirm if the hitch was properly secured before the crash.

Vista Towing removed the damaged Expedition at the owner’s request.
