Montgomery County Deputy Erika Serrato Killed While Directing Traffic on I-45 Near The Woodlands
Montgomery County, TX (June 29, 2025) — Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Erika Serrato, 24, died early Sunday after a commercial truck struck her while she directed traffic at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 45 near The Woodlands.
Deputies responded around 2:39 a.m. to reports of a crash on the northbound lanes of I-45 near the Woodlands Parkway exit. Investigators determined the initial collision involved a suspected impaired driver, and deputies were managing traffic around the scene.
While Deputy Serrato was outside her patrol vehicle directing motorists, a commercial truck pulling a trailer entered the crash area, struck her, and crashed into two marked sheriff’s vehicles with their emergency lights activated.
Emergency crews transported Serrato to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Another deputy suffered minor injuries after being hit by debris and was treated and released. The commercial truck driver was also taken to a hospital.
Authorities identified Ashton Jammer, 34, as one of the drivers involved in the original crash. He faces a charge of driving while intoxicated in connection with that incident.
The collision shut down all northbound lanes of I-45 for several hours before traffic reopened. The investigation remains ongoing.
Sweet Lawyers extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow deputies of Erika Serrato. We honor her dedication to protecting her community and hope her loved ones find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
