Brookshire Resident Killed in ATV Crash on FM 362 in Brookshire

Brookshire, TX (March 14, 2026) — 65-year-old Ernest Ray Kelley of Brookshire lost his life Friday afternoon after a chain-reaction crash involving several vehicles and an ATV along FM 362.

Authorities say that Kelley was riding a Tracker Pro ATV southbound toward Garvie Road when the collision occurred around 1 p.m. near the intersection of FM 362 and Garvie Road.

Investigators said traffic had slowed as a Mercedes traveling north prepared to turn left onto Garvie Road, with a Ford F-250 stopping behind it. At that moment, a Freightliner 18-wheeler approached from behind and failed to slow down in time, striking the Ford pickup. The force of the crash pushed the Ford into the southbound lanes, where it collided with Kelley’s ATV.

Emergency responders pronounced Kelley dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the Ford F-250 were taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that the drivers of the 18-wheeler and the Mercedes, along with the truck’s passenger, were not injured.

Officials cited the 18-wheeler driver for failure to control speed. The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
