Indio, CA (July 6, 2026) — 75-year-old Estela Garza died after a vehicle struck her in a frightening pedestrian crash on Avenue 44 late Saturday night.

According to the Indio Police Department, the collision happened around 11 p.m. at the intersection with Golf Center Parkway. Officers found Garza with critical injuries, and paramedics provided emergency treatment before transporting her to a hospital, where she later died.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Estela Garza of Bermuda Dunes.

Investigators said a white Audi sedan was traveling north on Golf Center Parkway when it struck Garza after she stepped from the center median into the roadway. The 50-year-old Audi driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The Indio Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the fatal crash. Golf Center Parkway remained closed for about three hours while crews processed the scene.
