Two Women Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-40 Near McLean

McLean, TX (April 7, 2026) — 81-year-old Dorothy Guinn of Pampa, and 60-year-old Ester Evenson of Amarillo, tragically lost their lives in a tragic head-on crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 40 near McLean in Gray County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Guinn drove a Hyundai Santa Fe the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-40. Her vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander.

Guinn died at the scene from her injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, Evenson also suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened around 2:00 p.m., prompting officials to shut down eastbound lanes near mile marker 140 for several hours. Crews later cleared the scene, and the roadway reopened by early evening.
