Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Wheelchair User in Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (September 19, 2026) — A man died after a vehicle struck him in a marked crosswalk in Long Beach, and police arrested Ethan Chung shortly after the fatal hit-and-run.

The crash occurred around 12:35 a.m. Friday, September 18, at East 7th Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Police said a white BMW sedan was traveling south on Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the victim, who was crossing the roadway in a wheelchair.

Officers performed CPR before Long Beach Fire Department personnel continued life-saving efforts. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later located the suspected driver, 23-year-old Ethan Chung of Irvine, with a 2021 BMW near East 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway, about five blocks from the crash. Officers booked Chung into Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

The investigation remained ongoing.
