Drunk Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash on I-215 in Moreno Valley

Moreno Valley, CA (August 26, 2026) — 29-year-old Evelyn Munguia of Perris faces charges after authorities determined she was driving under the influence when her BMW crashed into a trailer on Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley, killing a teenage passenger.

The California Highway Patrol said Evelyn Odalma Guzman Munguia was driving a 2008 BMW X5 southbound on I-215 around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when she struck a trailer being towed by a 2023 GMC Sierra pickup. The trailer was carrying an all-terrain vehicle.

The impact caused the BMW and ATV to overturn. The BMW then traveled out of control and came to rest in the northbound lanes.

A 15-year-old Perris resident riding in the BMW died at the scene. Munguia and two other passengers suffered moderate injuries and received hospital treatment. The pickup driver escaped injury.

CHP officers determined Munguia was intoxicated at the time of the crash. After leaving the hospital, authorities booked her into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other offenses. The investigation remains ongoing.
