Wrong-Way Crash on I-505 in Vacaville Kills Woman, Leads to DUI Arrest
Vacaville, CA (September 1, 2026) — On Sunday, a 66-year-old Vacaville woman died after a wrong-way DUI collision on Interstate 505 and caused a head-on crash.
The collision happened around 12:40 a.m. on southbound I-505, just south of Putah Creek Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 45-year-old Vallejo man driving a Chevrolet Tahoe missed an exit, made a U-turn on the freeway, and entered the southbound lanes going the wrong direction.
The Tahoe then collided head-on with a 2026 Nissan Kicks. The Nissan’s sole passenger, a 66-year-old Vacaville woman, died at the scene.
The Tahoe driver suffered minor injuries, and authorities arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI. After receiving medical clearance, officials planned to book him into Solano County Jail.
Investigators temporarily diverted southbound traffic at Putah Creek Road while crews cleared the crash scene. The freeway reopened around 4:20 a.m.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this tragic crash. We also hope the injured driver makes a full recovery.
When a Fatal Accident Changes Life Forever
Losing a loved one in a sudden crash is devastating. The grief can feel overwhelming, and for many families, that emotional pain is compounded by unexpected financial pressures—medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income or support your loved one once provided.
In moments like these, it’s important to know that you are not alone. A wrongful death claim can help families find a sense of justice and financial stability after an unimaginable loss. While no legal action can ever replace the person you’ve lost, it can provide accountability and help protect your family’s future.
Wrongful death claims can help families recover compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs related to final care
- Lost income and future financial support
- Loss of companionship and emotional suffering
Beyond financial relief, pursuing a claim is often about accountability. Whether a crash was caused by distracted driving, speeding, or another form of negligence, holding the responsible party accountable can help bring closure and reduce the risk of similar tragedies happening to others.
